Mutual Forest, 2014
In Collective Forest, created in 2014, we worked with two mehendi artists, Lokesh and Sunil, from the Raj Mehandhi Arts, Bangalore, to construct a forest on our arms made up of both iconic redwood and banyan trees. This image came out of our land-based research where we explored iconic trees as symbols of our common understanding. Pictured are iconic redwoods from California and the giant Banyan from India, forming a new world mutual forest. This was our first symbolic artistic gesture of understanding each other's cultures.
